Meet the Team

If you've ever wanted to know about our staff and just how long they've been in the industry this is the page for you:

Our Office

Debbie, Managing Director since 1985

As managing director of Dales, Scotland’s oldest and largest local bike shop, Debbie has grown the business to reach turnover of £3 million per annum.

Debbie took over the reins of the family business in 1985, introducing new retail technologies, innovations like Body Geometry Fitting and bringing major international brands such as Giant to Scotland for the first time.

Under Debbie’s leadership, Dales was one of the first stores in the country to introduce Cycle to Work schemes for both customers and staff and was named ‘Scottish Store of the Year’ by Cyclescheme in 2015.

With tens of thousands of customers and selling over 4,000 bikes per annum, the business now has two stores – Dobbies Loan in Glasgow and The Village in East Kilbride – with more than 20 dedicated staff.

Debbie remains focused on keeping Dales at the forefront of Scottish cycling through staff development and leading the field with new innovation and products coming to the market.

At weekends she can be found helping out at numerous track, road and cyclo-cross races throughout the country.

Kerri, Director since 1991

I joined the family business in 1991 where I introduced a dedicated clothing area within the store which was a first for any bike shop in Scotland. All I can say is the last 25 years have flown past!

Since then I have taken on the role of purchasing of the accessories within the business and many of the office admin duties. It is still nice however when round at our shop to see many of our regular and loyal customers that I have dealt with over the 25 years.

Apart from that a full time mum to two teenage kids. Oh Oh! Hope to ride my bike a bit more this year especially round Millport where we love spending time.

David, Finance Manager since 2007

After working in banking for some time David had the opportunity to work at Dales Cycles on a permanent basis.

He started on a full time basis in 2007 after helping out on a part time ad hoc basis for a little while prior to this.

David loves bikes and tries to get out on his own during his spare time which he will admit is not often enough.

Having the opportunity to see all the new cycle models coming into the business and looking at the classic professional workmanship of established suppliers is one of the perks of the job. Occasionally having his hands dirty working on cycles is another big perk of the job.

David’s other hobby is car mechanics and he enjoys checking over the Dales Cycles vans and cars.

Dales workforce is young, good fun and highly knowledgeable and David feels this keeps his own outlook on life and work fresh and up to date.

Motto: Where did I leave my pen/glasses etc

Gavin, Warehouse since 2012

Since joining Dales in 2012 Gavin has taken his experience from the sales floor and turned to organising our warehouse.

Lola, Guard Dog since 2012

Dobbies Loan Glasgow

Chris, General Manager since 1993

As I poured over the bike section of Littlewoods catalogue, there was that one bike that shone above all else, the purple to white fade of the 1989 Raleigh Mustang, it had me hooked, what a machine! I was all set to be the coolest kid on the block, I just had to remain a good boy for the remainder of the year.

Over my teenage years I upgraded from my dream machine and jumped from bike to bike finding it increasingly difficult knowing when to stop, a cycle retailers dream customer. To fund my addiction I landed myself a part time job in that big shop in town, Dales Cycles.

Almost receiving a P45 in the 1st couple of weeks I shrugged off my shyness, removed myself from the stockroom and hit the sales floor, an experience I absolutely loved after bagging my very first sale. Sometime later, eh, some twenty plus years later, I am still with the big bike shop in town as the General Manager.

Presently my cycling habits have changed somewhat with a ten mile blast around the Isle of Cumbrae more the norm. All is not lost! I can still show some of these young whippersnapper’s how to pull a proper wheelie.

Thank you Raleigh Mustang.

Krister, Sales Manager & Buyer since 1993

After 3 years cycle courier suffering I went to rediscover my love of bikes at Dales of Glasgow in 1993.

I'm into Brompton builds ,vintage frames ,parts and accessories.

I admit that the colour of a bike, helmet and accessories are important to me. Get over it!

Now as Shop Floor Manager and accessory buyer with a little visual merchandise injection, I get to be part of helping people get the best shopping experience for their cycling needs.

Jonathan, Senior Sales & Body Geometry Fit (level 3) since 2006

I've been around bikes since I learned to ride as a wee boy, my older brothers had bikes and were always tinkering with brakes, gears and wheels, I got the bug.

My first bike came frame from Dales at Charlotte Street, and I worked as a school boy at Dales in Maryhill Road.

Nearly 40 years later I returned to the bike industry 10 years ago.

The bike industry, technology and popularity has changed beyond recognition of the 70's and 80's and there are now so many different styles of bike to suit individual purposes.

My own expertise lies with road bikes and the new aspect of cycling....bike fitting.

Based mainly in Glasgow, I'm here to get you on the road to another lifetime of cycling.

Simon, Senior Sales & Body Geometry Fit since 20014

Born and brought up in Inverness I got back into cycling after a long break off the bike. I Joined the local club and recaptured my love of road cycling, so turned my enjoyment of cycling into my job.

I have a passion for road cycling especially from the 60's and 70's, Merckx, Coppi and Pantani...so old school steel is a must for me. Since joining Dales I have progressed my knowledge and I am now one of the shops Body Geometry Bike Fit Technicians and nothing makes me smile more than helping someone get comfortable and more powerful on their bike. If I’m not at work you will find me out exploring the Campsie Hills on my trusty road bike.

Scott, Senior Sales since 2005

I grew up on the Southside of Glasgow, spent some time in Edinburgh and now stay in Cumbernauld. I've always been into bikes, cars and anything with wheels. I like to do three things during my time away from Dales, ride my bike, drive my car and sit on the sofa with my wife watching movies.

I'm the resident mountain-bike, fat-bike, touring-bike, anything-weird-bike expert at Dales Cycles. Since I've worked here for over 10 years, I know most things when it comes to bikes, and I'm always looking to learn the rest.

A few facts you might not know about me. I own a cat, it's called Bear. I have an honours degree in History. The first dance at my wedding was to the dulcet tones of Chicago's You're the Inspiration.

Peace Out.

Luke, Senior Sales since 2005

Hello, my name is Luke and I run the Dales Cycles Clothing Department.

I have been in the Bike Trade since 2002 and in that time I have seen many new and innovative products come to the industry.

I like to think that my experience has given me fairly decent product knowledge and an insight into what apparel is suited for each rider and their environment.

John Dargie, Body Geomerty Fit since 2013

John has a wealth of qualifications and experience to assist furthering your bike riding.

An honours degree in Physiology and Sports Science, British Triathlon Certified coach and Specialized Body Geometry Fit Technician together with 20 plus years competing and working in endurance sport.

Jim, Mechanic since 1989

As part of the Houston family and left school and started working at Dales back in 1989.

The majority of my time is taken up in our busy workshop but also on the sales floor when things get very busy.

I am qualified in servicing suspension forks and shocks on all the major brands like Fox, Rockshox, Marzocchi and Suntour.

I have also been building wheels for over 25 years so if you pick the hub,rim and spokes I can build it to your specification.

I am also a Shimano Di2 and Campagnolo EPS certified technician.

I can strip and rebuild any part of any bike or the FULL bike if needed. In short there is nothing that I won’t or can’t do!

Dougie, Mechanic since 2006

Mainly does repairs but also new bike when needed and just loves tech chat

Moto: Quality over quantity

Peter, Mechanic since 1996

28 years in the bike trade and 20 of those at Dales as of February 2016.

Over the years in the cycle trade I've been lucky enough to experience some ups and downs, the launch of some different styles and designs and the constant progression in technology, riding styles, customer styles.

I can remember a very small corner in Dales that used to be the mountain bike section where there was only about 6 bikes on show, how times have changed over the years!

The trade has changed quite dramatically over the years some good some not so good

On a personal basis I've been able to travel to America/Europe and learn different skills and have achieved some high level qualifications.....and forgotten more than I now know!

  • Shimano
  • Cyctec level 3
  • Cannondale tech
  • Rockshox....... to mention just a few

Kieran, Mechanic since 2016

Hi there, my name's Kieran and I'm the newbie of the team.

I've spent the past 9 years working on bikes in a large chain store and recently made the jump to Dales, working as the shopfloor mechanic. Loving it so far!

My interests lie mainly with mountain biking but I also dabble in a bit of road when I find a group I can keep up with. I've been riding bikes since I was around 13...14 years ago! Growing up in Lanark I was never too far away from Glentress and Innerleither, so that's where I could be found most weekends.

Nowadays I travel a bit further afield and like many of us, use cycling as an excuse to explore. I've had a few cycling holidays in the Alps in Morzine, the most recent of which ended with a fairly large crash and a trip to the local doctors, but that's all part of the fun...isn't it???

My other love in life is my varied collection of cars, which includes a Trabant of all things!

James, Mechanic since 2016

My love of bikes and cycling goes back further than I can remember.

At the age of 15, I would spend hours toiling over my Diamond Back mountain bike, taking it apart and putting it back together again and again, making improvements and enhancements wherever I could. I could never get enough.

Nearly 12 years and a City & Guilds qualification later, I am eager for bikes and cycling to continue to be part of my life for many years to come.

Rory, Sales since 2015

Hi my name’s Rory.

One of the few riders that likes both road and mountain biking.

Got into cycling from a young age sending sick jumps from a homemade ramp in the garden. Currently riding a rose xenon paid for by my first year student loan. Part time employee in the shop whilst in my second year at the University of Strathclyde studying sports engineering – hopefully by the time I graduate a job in sports engineering will exist!
