    If you want to buy a bike, there’s an even easier way to get a cheaper ride!

     

    The Basics

     

    Cycle to Work allows an employer to offer an employee a cheaper way to purchase their ideal bicycle.

    Choose your bicycle in store, hire it from your employer for an agreed length of time (usually 12 months), and then purchase it for a small percentage of its original price. This usually results in a saving of over 25% from RRP for a standard rate taxpayer. Even greater savings are available for higher rate taxpayers.

    The scheme can also be used to purchase relevant safety accessories and clothing for use with the bicycle. For cyclists who already have a bike, some schemes will also allow for “accessory only” applications. Certain accessories are excluding, including but not limited to, computers, aero bars and boot racks.

    To find out if you’re registered, ask around your place of work, or with your manager, HR department etc.

     

    The Rules

     

    Employees can choose a bicycle and/or accessories up to a total of £1000. A small number of employers allow for vouchers over £1000, but this is quite rare.

    After receiving your bicycle and redeeming your voucher, you will pay it back through your monthly wage packet, before tax, netting you an average saving of 25%.

    At the end of the scheme you will be given the opportunity to purchase the bicycle. This is usually at 5% of the fair market value of the bicycle. This usually amounts to not much more than the previous monthly payments.

    Sale bicycles and accessories are not included for purchase on Cycle to Work schemes. Cycle to Work vouchers cannot be used in conjunction with other existing offers and/or discount codes.

    Regulations

    You pick a bike and/or accessories costing a maximum of £1000 (there are some exceptions where you can go over this if your work holds a consumer credit licence).

    Its deducted from your gross salary over a year (you pay less tax and NI), although we accept several scheme vouchers we find this a handy calculator:

    At the end of the 12-month ‘hire’ period, you buy the bike from your employer for its HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) approved Fair Market Value (FMV).

    Step by Step

    Step 1. Once your employer is partnered with any of the schemes, you can visit our stores or call us to choose your bike and any extra safety equipment you might need, up to the value of £1000.

    Step 2. We will provide you with a written quotation to help you apply for a certificate. Usually this will be done online, or through your HR department.

    Step 3. If approved, a certificate/voucher will be posted or e-mailed to you.

    Step 4. Let us know when you've received your voucher so that we can safety check your bicycle and ensure everything is ready for collection/delivery.

    Step 5. Redeem your certificate in store or over the telephone in exchange for your chosen bike and accessories.

     

    Dales Cycles reserve the right to exclude chosen products from purchase with Cycle to Work vouchers.

    These usually include products sold in conjunction with existing offers/vouchers, or sale/reduced items.

    With our bespoke bike box, our minimal packaging approach and all tools supplied, you really can be off and riding your new bike in less than a few minutes.

    Our unique delivery service eliminates the need for foam, bubble wrap and zip-ties too, so it’s also better for the planet. We recycle all this stuff, so where you can, please try and do the same. Apart from doing your bit for mother Earth, it will give you a warm, fuzzy feeling that you just can't buy!

    Remember that shipping is FREE within the UK on all full price bikes bought from Dales Cycles. It may be necessary to pay an additional shipping charge if your delivery address is outwith what our couriers call UK mainland, these may include, but aren't limited to Highlands and Islands in Scotland, Channel Islands and some other remote postcode locations

    Postage and Packaging is free on all purchase over £20 from our site. A variable delivery charge between £2.50 and £5.95 applies to all other purchases dependant on courier option.

    *Electric Bikes

    Due to the extra weight of electric bikes, we are unable to ship these fully assembled. Instead, your bike will be built, configured and checked by our mechanics before being packed back into it's original box.

    This method requires removing the front wheel, handlebars, pedals and seatpost, which will need to be reinstalled upon arrival.

    Christmas Deliveries

    Over the Christmas period our website and store will be closed on the dates found here. Orders can still be placed during this time and will be processed as quickly as possible when the doors open again.

    Please note that in the case of items which need to be ordered in for you, our suppliers will be operating their own schedule of Christmas closures. If this would cause a delay to your order we will be in touch in inform you and help arrange the best solution.

    Delivery Time

    We try our best to get through orders as quickly as possible and do manage to get most orders dispatched within 24-48 hours of arrival.

    We do try to have all orders dispatched within 1-3 working days of order confirmation.

    Delivery times may be longer in circumstances where items need to be specially ordered due to size requirements or the item no longer being in stock.

    We will advise you of any possible delays when you place your order.

    You will receive an email confirmation at various stages of your order process as well as upon dispatch.

    Delivery Cost

    Postage and Packaging is FREE on all purchase over £20 from our site.

    Delivery Address

    At present we are currently only able to deliver to UK and Northern Ireland addresses.

    A signature will be required to receive your order where a tracked courier or postal service has been used.

    Delivery Handling

    We use either TNT, DHL, DPD or Royal Mail Tracked Delivery Service for all deliveries.

    A signature will be required to receive your order.

    When we dispatch your order, you will receive an e-mail containing a TNT, DHL, DPD or Royal Mail tracking number.

    You can use these emails to access TNT, DHL, DPD or Royal Mail's Track and Trace system on their respective websites. This will give you information regarding expected delivery times.

    All orders are sent using either TNT Next Day, DHL Next Day, DPD Next Day or Royal Mail tracked service.

    Depending on your location and the time of year, your order should arrive, at the latest, 3 working days after dispatch.

    If your item has not been received after this time you can contact TNT, DHL, DPD or Royal Mail directly, quoting your Tracking Reference number or contact Dales Cycles by emailing [email protected].

    Although we can take no responsibility for any delivery delays or problems out-with our control caused by TNT, DHL, DPD, Royal Mail or any other carrier, we will do all we can to help resolve any delivery problems.

    You will be responsible for the items as soon as they are delivered so please check your delivery before you sign for it and if your package is damaged please sign for it as such and contact us to let us know.

    We are confident that you will be delighted with the products you purchase from us but if you do change your mind we offer a 90 day money back guarantee on all online purchases except in the circumstances listed below

    This cooling-off period begins the day your order is confirmed and ends 90 days from the day after you receive your order.

    How it Works

    • If you wish to cancel an order before it has been dispatched you should phone our helpline at the first opportunity, we can be contacted on 0141 332 2705.
    • You will be notified by email when your order has been posted to you and you can track this online.
    • If you wish to return goods you have already received, please complete the returns form that comes with your package. A member of our staff will be happy to advise you and guide you through the returns process if required.
    • Goods must be returned within 90 days from the day after the goods are received/signed for.
    • Goods must be returned in their original condition along with all tools, packaging and paperwork. If returning goods, you are under a duty to keep them in your possession and to take reasonable care of them making sure they remain undamaged until we are in receipt of the returned item.
    • All goods must be returned by a secure courier method at your own expense. You should retain proof of shipping until we inform you that the returned items have been received safely by us.
    • Dales Cycles can arrange for a courier to uplift this for you using a next day express service, however you will be liable for the cost of that pick up and any other incurred costs. You will need to make the package available for a collection between 09:00-17:00 Monday-Friday. We will of course work with you to arrange a suitable day for this to be uplifted
    • Because costs vary by location and distance we cannot give you a static value for carriage and all prices will be confirmed before any pick up is arranged.
    • All items will be checked for damage and use upon return by one of our trained mechanics where a bike or other mechanical or computerised item is involved
    • We will check for aesthetic damage on the item(s)
    • We will assemble it (where required) and check the mechanical and structural integrity
    • A full refund will be given excluding any postal charges included in the original purchase price where we have had to arrange a courier or been subjected to additional costs. The refund will be made for the cost of the goods to the same method of payment used to place the order.

    If we have sent you an incorrect order or your item is damaged

    Should, for some reason, your purchases reach you in a less than perfect condition please contact our helpline immediately on 0141 332 2705 so we can resolve the problem as swiftly as possible.

    We will offer, if available, an exact replacement or we can advise on a suitable replacement of similar quality and value.

    If you do not wish the item replaced or exchanged a full refund will be given.

    In either case we will refund any postal costs incurred by you in returning a faulty or damaged item where we have not been able to arrange a collection by our own courier.

    Returning an Item

    When returning an item please mark the order number on the outside of the package and enclose a copy of your order paperwork.

    This will enable us to deal with your return more efficiently and make any required refunds quicker.

    Refunds

    Any refunds will be made to the customer that purchased the items using the same method of payment as the purchase.

    Refunds will be made electronically and cannot be made in store.

    Where a card has expired we will endeavour to obtain updated card details and where this is not possible we will issue a refund by cheque or BACS transfer.

    We will refund all payments within 14 days, we usually do that the day we receive the item back or as soon as any mechanical checks have been completed.
