Bike Fit

Bike Fit Data

“Bike Fit” is the new expression in cycling circles. Bike Fit goes far beyond ensuring that you buy the correct size of bicycle.

There are already many fitting systems and services on the market, often backed by the leading bicycle brands. These services are provided by independent shops, multiple stores, private individuals and mobile services, however these services vary dramatically in approach, theory and results. Some systems will guide you towards a specific brand model.

Here at Dales Cycles in Glasgow, we are a family run independent shop with a focus on excellent customer service. We have operated our Specialized Body Geometry fitting service since 2008, Led by Jonathan Allan, Scotland’s only level 3 qualified Specialized Body Geometry specialist, we have a team of 3 fitting technicians.

Jonathan has been fitting since the beginning and with this comes a great deal of experience and knowledge, having sat and passed the level 3 examinations in California in 2014, he is the” go to guy” for road, time trial and triathlon bike fitting.

Simon Dalgarno, has been fitting since he joined Dales 18 months ago and provides excellent results with road bikes, he’ll progress to level 2 and TT and Triathlon machines in due course.

John Dargie is a qualified Sports Scientist whose extensive expertise and knowledge augments the fitting service, John also provides multi discipline coaching and assessment, having taken athletes through to World competition level, he offers you a unique bike shop service within the Glasgow area.

Bike fitting is not just the domain of the club level rider, cyclists of all abilities will benefit from this service.

Your personal fitting will be carried out on a one to one basis within our studio here in the Glasgow shop. Taking approximately 3 hours to complete. Starting with a short discussion regarding your cycling past, present and future, any specific bike related issues that you may have, followed by an examination of your physical structure and range of flexibility which may reveal anomalies which can affect your comfort and position.

A close examination of your existing bike may reveal clues to discomfort too. It is surprising what even experienced riders put up with! ( it is essential that your bike is presented in a clean and serviceable condition.)

Putting rider and machine together on our static trainer, a series of observations are made regarding position and technique, then making a series of step by step adjustments to position such as saddle height, or components, such as saddle width, we will arrive at a marriage of rider and machine, resulting in greater comfort, reduction of injury risk, efficiency and enjoyment.

Usually, within a 4-6 week period, a follow up call is made to discuss the effect of your fitting, all being well, the recorded data will be provided for future reference or a further appointment made to make any amendments.

The bike fitting experience will be enhanced further with the choice of well designed, well-fitting shoes, shorts and gloves. These are products to which Specialized have applied the same Body Geometry philosophy and science to, including patented features in shoes, which assist knee over pedal alignment, discipline specific pad technology in shorts, and specifically positioned gel padding in gloves and mitts, to protect hands and wrists from vibration.

Specialized has become the shoe brand of choice of the world’s leading athletes.

Here at Dales, you’ll find these Specialized products, along with other quality brands, Assos, Castelli, Endura, Gore and Giro, in what is probably Scotlands largest cycling clothing department.

Our services are in great demand with many clients travelling long distances from the north, south and east to take advantage of our expertise, therefore booking is essential.

At a cost of £150.00 (plus any recommended hardware), this will be money well spent whatever your discipline or level you ride at.

Please call for further assistance and advise and bookings. 0141 332 2705.

John Dargie's coaching and performance related services should be discussed with him personally or by completing the form in the link below.

Test Rides

Would you like to try before you buy?

No problem, all of the bikes on our sales floor are set up and ready to roll.

If you don’t see something in your size, don’t fear, ask one of our staff and if we have your size in our warehouse then we can have it prepared for you to come back and try.

All we require from you is a small refundable deposit from a credit or debit card so you can get out and enjoy your prospective new steed.

The only other thing which may scupper your chances of getting out would be the weather as our bikes cannot be tested in the rain, luckily it rarely rains in Glasgow…

Something for the weekend?

No problem, we also offer longer rides on selected demonstrator models.

These can be loaned for a £50 non-refundable deposit which will be put towards the cost of the bike if you fall in love with it and choose to purchase it.

Most of these bikes need to be ordered in from the manufacturer so please come and speak to one of our staff or give us a call if you are interested and we can check the availability.

Gift Cards

Despite our extensive range of bikes, accessories and clothing, sometimes it's very difficult to know what to get the cyclist in your life as a gift.

Here at Dales, we can provide you the perfect solution in the form of a Gift Card, neatly presented in a fitted envelope.

A credit card sized electronic card can be loaded at the shop counter with any amount of your choice, from a few pounds or to provide funds for some exotic dream machine.

Suitable for any event, Birthday, Christmas, Anniversary, Farewell, Incentive or Raffle prize, this is the quick and easy way to ensure they receive exactly what they want.

A gift card can be redeemed in full, in part or topped up, if you wish to save for something extra special. They can also be used to fund our in store services, Workshop, Body Geometry Fitting or Lab assessments, all of which need advanced booking.

Cyclists always need something, take the guess work out of your gift selection with a Dales Cycles Gift Card.

WEEE Regulations

We do try to save the environment where we can and recycle a lot of our stuff.

We even try and encourage you to get on a bike! It's healthy, keeps you fit and its environmentally responsible. Unless you're shipping toxic waste in a rucksack or something whilst riding or maybe you've just eaten a tuna sandwitch. In that case we probably should have words because that's not cool!

Sometimes people have to do other things as well and this is where the WEEE stuff comes in.

Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Regulations 2006 (THE WEEE Regulations)

The waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive is now UK law.

Dales Cycles is a distributor of Business to Consumer (B2C) Electrical and Electronic Equipment (EEE). As a responsible company, Dales Cycles are committed to providing high quality products and services to our customers and reducing our environmental impact, by recycling our products when they become waste electrical and electronic equipment, in an environmentally friendly manner.

Dales Cycles will provide the following Free of Charge services to our customers:

  • Provide 'take back' on a like for like basis across our product range from the 1st of July 2007
  • The 'take back' service is available free of charge when you purchase a replacement product from us
  • This service is available at all of our retail outlets and also on our internet sales products
  • We will provide the above service free of charge for any like for like product irrespective of the manufacturer of the product, when the customer is purchasing a replacement product from Dales Cycles.

For example, if a customer bought a new Heart Rate Monitor from us we would accept their old Heart Rate Monitor and prevent it from going into a landfill site by disposing of it safely. Customers must return their WEEE item to us within 28 days of purchasing their new item.

The amount of WEEE we throw away is increasing by around 5% each year, making it the fastest growing waste stream in the UK.

Much of the UK's WEEE ends up in landfill, where the lead and other toxins it contains can cause soil and water contamination. This can be a harmful effect on natural habitat, wildlife and also human health.

Many electrical items we throw away can be repaired or recycled. Recycling items helps to save our natural finite resources and also reduces the environmental and health risks associated with sending electrical goods to landfill.

Additional Information

From the 1st July 2007 the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Regulations 2006 (the WEEE Regulations) came into effect in the UK. The aim of the regulations is to reduce the amount of WEEE going to landfill for disposal. This will be achieved by promoting the separate collection of WEEE and its re-use, recycling, recovery and environmentally sound disposal. This approach saves energy, resources and avoids hazardous materials from going to landfill.

Any product that requires electricity or batteries to enable it to perform its primary function, would be classed as electrical or electronic equipment (EEE); everyday examples would be a watch or alarm clock.

Products which are classed as EEE and are covered by the regulations must display a crossed out wheeled bin symbol on the product; or if this is not possible the symbol must be displayed on the packaging, the instruction leaflet and the warranty. Products displaying a black bar beneath the wheeled bin, denote EEE placed upon the market after the 13th August 2005; products without the black bar are placed on the market prior to the 13th August 2005.

This symbol allows you to identify WEEE products and dispose of them separately from other when it reaches the end of its useful life.
